Dos de las primeras obras del autor que exploran la melancolía, la soledad, la esperanza y el desencanto amoroso. Las dos piezas recogidas aquí se inscriben en una etapa inicial de la producción del autor, cuando aún estaban por llegar algunas de sus grandes obras, como Crimen y castigo o Los hermanos Karamázov. El escenario en el que se desarrolla Noches blancas es el de las serenas y luminosas noches de la primavera petersburguesa, en el que los sucesivos encuentros entre dos espíritus sensibles y apasionados propician el desnudamiento de las almas y su acercamiento. La pregunta acerca de la posibilidad de que un instante de felicidad valga toda una vida humana reverbera en la nouvelle. El héroe que figura en el título de la segunda historia, un niño de once años que se enamora de una dama casada, comparte con los protagonistas de la primera la pureza de espíritu y el candor. These two pieces belong to an early stage of the author's production, before some of his great masterpieces such as Crime and Punishment or The Brothers Karamazov. The setting of White Nights is the serene and luminous nights of the Petersburg spring, where successive encounters between two sensitive and passionate souls lead to the unveiling of their inner selves and their closeness. The question of whether a single moment of happiness can be worth an entire human life reverberates throughout the novella. A Little Hero, the second story, features an eleven-year-old boy who falls in love with a married woman, sharing with the protagonists of the first tale the purity of spirit and innocence. Love--the central theme in both works collected in this volume--becomes for him a decisive experience in the transition from childhood to adolescence. Fiódor Mijáilovich Dostoievsky (Moscú, 1821- San Petersburgo, 1881). Es uno de los mejores novelistas rusos de la historia. Educado por un padre alcohólico y déspota, tras la temprana muerte de su madre, estudió en la Escuela de Ingenieros de San Petersburgo. Raised by an alcoholic and despotic father, after the early death of his mother, he studied at the Saint Petersburg Engineering School. In 1849, he was sentenced to death for collaborating with liberal groups; however, he was pardoned hours before the execution. His writings, extremely meticulous, are profound psychological analyses, moral tragedies, or existentialist notes that dissect 19th-century society.
