Overview

""What I experienced as a kid wasn't THAT bad.Other kids had it much worse."" Could you be one of the forgotten trauma survivors? Are you coping with unidentified complex PTSD from early intangible attachment trauma today? You now have a healing guidebook written just for you. Author Ricia Fleming, licensed therapist and naCCT survivor, says: ""Because of its subtle everyday nature, the trauma category of Non-physically-assaultive, attachment-based Chronic Covert Trauma (naCCT) poses unique challenges. "" Maybe you experienced naCCTs such as: - Emotional, social, and/or psychological neglect. - Gaslighting and reality twisting, - ""No Hugs, No Cuddles"" Trauma, - Traumatic absence of loving guidance, interest, or understanding, - Physically present, (even over-involved, over-controlling, and intrusive), but psychologically unattuned (""helicopter"") parenting, Pathogenic Pleasantness and Poisonous Positivity - Being used as a parent to your own parent, a trophy child, or a ""stand-in spouse,"" or even - Hidden hostilities. With no tangible trauma to point to, confusion is normal for adults who've been wounded by early naCCTs; many even deny they've been traumatized. Yet, realistically, when we're little, subtle everyday disturbances in our lifeline relationships with mother, father, or other important caregivers can register on our bodies, minds, and spirits as threats to life itself. In a word, as 'trauma.'"" Whether or not your caregiver was concerned and well-intentioned, whether or not you also experienced blatant physical assaults like beatings or incest, the cumulative effect of these intangible early naCCTs can cause complex PTSD. As an adult, you can find yourself having to cope with physical, psychological, financial, and relationship problems and overall lack of fun, spontaneity, and meaning. This cutting-edge book, uniquely devoted to healing the hidden wounds from these early traumas, will help you take pride in how well you have managed so far. Then it will provide you with action steps for starting to feel better right away. Destined to become a life-changing classic, No Sticks or Stones provides: - Down-to-earth survivor stories you can relate to, - Strategies for identifying, handling, and de-activating subtle People-Triggers, painful Body-State Triggers, and hard-to-recognize naCCT flashbacks, - Practical guidance and non-pathologizing support grounded in neurobiological trauma research, and - A toolkit of empowering information, actionable strategies, checklists, exercises, and self-talk scripts. "An important, well researched and detailed description of an under-diagnosed condition. Very helpful to anyone who has experienced cPTSD and was unable to find verification, documentation and help for their problems. --Gloria J. Kozlosky, Amazon Review What Ricia Fleming has defined as non-physically-assaultive, attachment-based Chronic Covert Trauma is something that I believe almost all of us suffer from. . . .It's WHY we struggle to believe in ourselves and go after our dreams with the full force of our creative genius. --Andrea Schroeder, Amazon Review I especially liked the later part of the book that had the reader activities and self help scripts and other practical actions people could take to get unstuck. I'm an action-taker and a practical person, so these were super useful for me. --Natalie Hill, Amazon Review Reading Dr. Fleming's book was a turning point in my healing journey - finally a book that spoke about what I had experienced. Non-physically-assaultive, attachment based chronic covert trauma, naCCT - there it was, it has a name, it's real and I'm not making it up! --Steph, Amazon Review Ultimately, this book is validating, comforting, and relatable without labeling, ""othering,"" or blaming anyone. How refreshing! --BWL, Amazon Review I will be returning to this book often because I feel that each reread will help me further on my trip to healing these early wounds. --""Somebody,"" Amazon Review Her words are gentle and kind, as though Dr. Fleming is speaking directly to the reader. She cares. Easy to follow. Empowering! . . .Chapters are well organized, so one can skip around to the topics which most affect them. --Kinderkat, Amazon Review Also great as a reference guide AFTER the initial read. --Amazon Customer, Amazon Review"

Author Information

Licensed psychotherapist, survivor of intangible childhood trauma herself -- (""been there, done that, got-the-T-shirt"") --, long-time member of the New England Society for the Treatment of Trauma and Dissociation, and awarded inclusion in 2022 Marquis' ""Who's Who in America,"" Patricia ""Ricia"" Fleming says, ""For twenty years I provided mind-body-psychotherapy helping over 3,000 people hospitalized with chronic pain, depression, and PTSD reclaim their lives. ""Yet even as a practicing therapist, when I compared my childhood to those filled with blatant physically-assaultive attachment traumas like beatings and incest, I felt I 'hadn't had it bad enough' to qualify for trauma healing. ""Gradually I educated myself about myself, applying to my own challenges the concepts and treatment techniques I'd used with survivors of those blatant traumas. To my amazed delight, I started getting better. ""In 'No Sticks or Stones, ' I share with you what I've learned personally and professionally about meeting intangible trauma's unique challenges. ""My heart soars when a reader says ""'No Sticks or Stones' explained why I'm the way I am' or 'helped me accept myself and others in a way I never thought possible.'"" Ricia Fleming, Ph.D. English Literature, triple-licensed as mental health counselor, certified social worker, and massage therapist, now draws on over 40 years of professional service as a therapist, educator, and hands-on healer promoting human well-being, with a special focus on healing trauma.
