No Ordinary Life

Overview

Two writers are on a collision course. As a child, sixty-three-year-old contemporary author Warren Porter had been unable to save his brother, Connor, from drowning. But Connor's astonishing return from the dead leaves a young Warren with much to consider. Connor continues visiting Warren and provides him with stories from beyond the grave. Adult Warren uses Connor's stories to build a successful literary career for himself, but when trying to write his own material, hits a severe case of writer's block, existential guilt, and the intrusion of unnervingly repressed memories. Twenty-five-year-old Sarah Hughes, a 1970's small-town author, had an early life of storied success until her adult dreams were quickly dashed by New York's realities. Sarah also finds herself in an abusive relationship. Unable to flee, she incorporates her maltreatment into her Great American Novel, but even the most well-plotted of stories can take horrible, left turns all on their own . . . . Warren and Sarah come together across Time and prose, in the most bizarre and mind-bending of ways that confound the boundaries of fiction and reality.

Reviews

""Weird, haunting, and addictive, F. P. Dorchak's imagination cannot be ignored. He's not just telling a great story, he's trying to unravel the mysteries of human existence."" AARON MICHAEL RITCHEY, The Cunning Man Series, Dragon Award Finalist ""In No Ordinary Life, F. P. Dorchak's unique style crafts vivid pictures that are seared into the mind as he twists disparate tendrils of his imagination into a most dark and satisfying conclusion."" JONATHAN BRAZEE, USA Today Best Seller ""F. P. Dorchak's No Ordinary Life is a fascinating kaleidoscope of literal life and death, a hypnotic, holographic road trip through reality and beyond, illuminating dangerous shortcuts and paths not traveled."" JOHN E. STITH, Pushback, Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense Finalist, Nebula Award Nominee, Redshift Rendezvous ""F. P. Dorchak has done it again! No Ordinary Life pulls you in, twists your perceptions to its will, and leaves you sitting alone wondering what just happened. The ride was relentless!"" PATRICK SMYTHE, Author ""No Ordinary Life is a delightfully unsettling blend of realist and metaphysical fiction that takes the reader on a journey far beyond the bounds of either genre. Dorchak's examination of guilt, memory, and the costs of honest storytelling is haunting in the best kind of way: a rewarding read for anyone who likes their fiction layered and thought-provoking!"" NIKI ZAYAS-DORCHAK, Private Educator ""F. P. Dorchak's new novel is weird in the best possible way. With compulsive, Stephen King-esque prose, it pulls you into a haunting story of two writers-linked by fate but separated by a lifetime. It's a meditation on storytelling, courage, and the strange ways art binds us, shows us the reality of life, but also offers a joyous escape. I love it, love it, love it."" AARON MICHAEL RITCHEY, The Cunning Man Series, Dragon Award Finalist
