No Matter What is a mother's memoir about recovery from anxiety and self-harm. How far would you go to save your child? Being a parent is an exciting and frightening experience. Like most mothers, Monika understood there would be ups and downs, but she expected the downs to be manageable. Her child's life would be full of love, nurturing and unlimited possibilities. What she never expected was the viciousness of others or the damage it would do to her little girl's self-esteem. Receiving the phone call and hearing the news of her child's secret urges to harm herself, was a shock. From that moment, everything changed. In the blink of an eye life was spiralling out of control and her once happy girl was replaced by a stranger whose eyes were black with hatred. Fighting to hold on, she helplessly watched as her daughter descended into a life of drugs, alcohol, and promiscuity. Traditional sources of support seemed to turn a blind eye, so Monika took matters into my own hands. How far would she go to save my child? As far as she needed to go!

Author Information
Monika Polefka-Proulx knows the effects of trauma. She understands how, if not addressed, it can taint every aspect of our lives. Through her writing, Monika provides hope for others struggling to move forward from past traumas. She fell in love with books at a very young age. When her father tragically died, she was eleven years old, and the remaining family moved back to Canada after years abroad. Fitting in and relearning English was difficult for a child who had spent the previous four years only speaking Spanish, so she submersed herself in literature. Books provided solace and an escape from loneliness and shyness. Monika has been happily married to her childhood sweetheart, Mike Proulx, for over thirty years. She is the proud mother of two amazing adults, Karl and Samantha. She loves spending time with her family, camping, and playing with her beautiful grandchildren. The family owns an automotive and autobody restoration shop and lives in Alberta, Canada. Through determination and her love of books, she has overcome shyness, depression, self-doubt, and a crisis in faith. Her passion for writing has led her to share her experiences and expand on her desire to help others struggling with similar experiences. Books have the power to transform, heal, and allow us to escape.
