OverviewLorene 'Renie' Sharp White was born into an affluent Middle Tennessee family, but she was born with a heart defect that neither affluence nor medical science could cure. This defect shadowed her entire life, become more and more of a burden as the years passed, but in spite of it she lived a remarkably full and admirable life. She graduated from Vanderbilt University, from Vanderbilt Divinity School, married, became an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church, and had a ministry of counseling, often counseling people whose problems were far less burdensome than her own. As her heart and lungs deteriorated she became a candidate for a heart-lung transplant at Stanford Hospital, and with her family and friends underwent the rigors and shared the hopes that such a surgery required and offered. Hers is a story of love, devotion, determination, and cutting edge medical science.
