Overview

NMR Spectroscopy of Polymers places emphasis on the practical use of NMR spectroscopy in polymer chemistry rather than the theoretical treatments. Based on the authors' extensive experimental experience, topics covered include (1) experimental problems such as preparation of sample solution, selection of solvent, internal standard and tube, and contaminants in sample solution, (2) accuracy and precision of NMR measurements required in the analysis of polymer structure such as tacticity, copolymer composition and chain end structures, (3) volume magnetic susceptibility by NMR, (4) stereochemistry of polymer chains, chemical composition and comonomer sequence distribution in copolymers, and end groups and irregular linkages, (5) on-line coupled size exclusion chromatography(SEC) and NMR spectroscopy(SEC/NMR) in which an NMR spectrometer is set in the SEC system as a detector.

From the reviews: NMR Spectroscopy of Polymers covers in detail all aspects of the NMR spectroscopic analysis of polymers from sample preparation to more complex issues associated with the structural elucidation of polymeric materials. !! In summary, this is an excellent reference book for synthetic polymer chemists and contains many useful practical points in addition to providing detailed coverage of the theoretical aspects of NMR spectroscopy. P. Woodward and W. Hayes Journal: Polymer International Society of Chemical Industry, Issue 54, p. 736-737 (2005) NMR Spectroscopy of Polymers covers in detail all aspects of the NMR spectroscopic analysis of polymers ! . this is an excellent reference book for synthetic polymer chemists and contains many useful practical points in addition to providing detailed coverage of the theoretical aspects of NMR spectroscopy. (P Woodward and W Hayes, Polymer International Society of Chemical Industry, Issue 54, 2005) This book places emphasis on the practical use of NMR spectroscopy in polymer chemistry rather than on theoretical treatments. Based on the authors' extensive experimental experience, topics included in the book cover experimental problems ! . The book also describes the applications of on-line coupled size ! . (LabPlus International, Vol. 18 (5), October, 2004) This book on NMR is a concise practical guidance on how to use NMR spectroscopy for the analysis of organic polymers. Thereby, it does not got into the depths of NMR theory. Rather, its content will be of great practical use for those with hands-on NMR machines. However, not only measurement techniques are elaborately illustrated with appropriate examples, but also the accurate setup of experiments is presented! This book is recommended to those who will have to get acquainted with the practical use of NMR for the analysis of polymers. University research group leaders should endorse this book as a great instruction for their graduate students starting out with this topic. But also experienced NMR spectroscopists in industrial and governmental laboratories will benefit from this compendium. Summary: NMR Spectroscopy of Polymers is an excellent, easy-to-read summary on the practical application of NMR spectroscopic techniques for polymers. It is a concise and short guide for any user dealing with this topic. Therefore, this book is approved as a valuable addition to any NMR library.
