OverviewThis text outlines the potential role of nitric oxide in the physiology and pathophysiology of the microcirculation with special emphasis on leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions. The chemistry of nitric oxide as it pertains to the vascular is summarized. Among other aspects, the controversial area of nitric oxide and ischemia/reperfusion is dealt with, followed by a chapter on a therapeutic approach to using nitric oxide in the leukocyte-dependent ulceration associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
