OverviewA debut collection of poetry twenty years in the making. The ninety-two minimalist pieces tackle the absurdity of what it means to be human and honor how moments, not plots, compose our lives. The collection is an attempt to capture these fleeting moments, while also trying to remember the intensity of the mundane and the abyss of the beautiful. Born in Colombia, Julian Esteban Torres Lopez immigrated to New Hampshire, U.S.A., when he was eight-years-old. Having also lived in Japan, Chile, and Canada, he identifies as a cultural hybrid. He attributes much of style to his numerous cultural experiences, his fear of forgetting, people and nature watching, and the traumas of the human condition. Torres Lopez's work has been inspired by Charles Simic, Friedrich Nietzsche, Wayson Choy, and Spanish-language authors, such as Federico Garcia Lorca, Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz, Pablo Neruda, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
