OverviewAfter over 86 years in residence, this 'elder' in Silver Lake thought it worthwhile to record some of his memories growing up and working here for such a long time. In the process he also records some of what happened over this span of years, to the family home-office, the VDL house, recently honored with the Nation's highest Honor, NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK! This tome should be of interest to historians and the new Master Planner, who is to come into the area, and envision how best to plan for this important Urban Park of LA, to transition into the inspired site that it has the potential to be. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDion Neutra was born in Los Angeles on October 8, 1926 -the year the Neutra practice was formed by his famed architect father, Richard Neutra. At the age of 11, Dion Neutra began his architectural apprenticeship at a drafting table in his father's office. After having served in the US Navy in WWII, he studied for a year in Zurich and finally in 1950 graduated cum laude from USC with a BA in architecture. A few weeks later he passed the four-day State Board Architectural License Exam in one sitting, and became one of the youngest corporate members of the AIA at the age of 24. Over the years, the Neutra Practice developed numbers of award-winning facilities: educational, medical, civic, recreational and residential. After the passing of Richard Neutra in 1970, Dion became firm president and continued to grow the practice, which in 2018, celebrated its 92nd year. He has traveled widely, lecturing in numerous locations in California, Nevada, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Puerto Rico, France, Canada and the South. He also provided leadership for the non-profit Neutra Institute for Design under whose aegis he developed the NEUTRA INSTITUTE MUSEUM OF SILVER LAKE. The Museum has hosted some 90 shows and events since its founding in August, 2014. This is housed in the front portion of the iconic Neutra Office Building, at 2379 Glendale Blvd. Los Angeles, California 90039. www.neutra.org. Check the website for late news on the museum.
