Overview

In today's society, bats have a bad reputation. Many think they all have rabies or other diseases, they fly into peoples' hair, or they are vampires, and many people are afraid of them. They are not the prettiest of the mammals and are not a cuddly little creature because they have sharp teeth and claws. Little brown bats are the most common bat in the United States, and have proven themselves to be very beneficial mammals to mankind because of the quantity of insects they consume. While bats are not yet on the endangered species list, they are considered threatened. In this educational story John Mitchell presents 24 hours in the life of a little brown bat. This book began as a poem, and evolved into an informative and exciting picture book. Although written for children, it also appeals to adults who wish to learn more about bats while sharing a great story with their family.
