OverviewThe dictionary is based on the Pocket Oxford, and has been extensively edited to ensure that words and phrases found in New Zealand are included, and that special meanings in this country are acknowledged. Some of the English material rarely used in New Zealand has been omitted, and examples have been modified to give a New Zealand context. The dictionary contains more than 50,000 entries, and has an essay on New Zealand English (printed in English and in Maori). There are three appendices which list Governor-Generals, Prime Ministers, mountains, rivers and lakes. There is also a map showing distribution of Maori Tribes.
