The FDNY employs over 11,000 uniformed firefighting employees, 4,500 uniformed EMTs, paramedics, and EMS employees, and 2,000 civilian employees The department uses modern technology like drones, laser methane detectors, and advanced training facilities like subway cars for exercises.
