Reviews

Big Apple. Big Orange. The similarities and dissimilarities, functions and dysfunctions, of New York and Los Angeles subsume and define the promise and uncertainties of the American urban future. With a fresh perspective, at once informed and questioning, confident and troubled, urbanists examine the achievements and challenges faced by the two dominant metro-regions of the nation. Who had it right, Woody Allen or the Terminator? -Kevin Starr, University of Southern California

All the chapters are coherent and well integrated with the book's overall goal. This fascinating tale of two cities makes a valuable contribution to comparative urban sociology, and the volume should serve as an important source book for students, scholars, and planners and policy makers interested in urban issues in the US. CHOICE This book presents some interesting and provocative comparative insights into LA and NYC as of 2010. Lily M Hoffman, Urban Studies
