OverviewThe New Grove Wagner was added to the Composer Biography Series to mark the centenary of Wagner's death. The biographical chapters of the book are written by John Deathridge, a scholar who has worked on the new Wagner edition and catalogue and whose recent research has met with enthusiastic praise. Dr. Deathridge has revised the work-list and bibliography in light of recent findings. For his discussion of Wagner's music and aesthetics—much admired when published in The New Grove—the renowned scholar Carl Dahlhaus has added a further chapter offering invaluable insights into Wagnerian theories of music and drama.
