Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationMARCY WINOGRAD A broadcaster-turned teacher, Marcy Winograd has taught English for twenty years in California's public schools, where she engages students in writing their own television scripts, hosting poetry cafes, and organizing debates. Prior to teaching, Marcy worked as a journalist for National Public Radio and Pacifica affiliates, where she won three Golden Mike awards for outstanding news writing and broadcasting. With her co-author Jackie Hirtz, Marcy wrote television scripts for Nickelodeon's animated show ""Doug""and educational software. Now, Marcy and Jackie have teamed up to write the Lola Zola series for tween girls. The first book in the series is ""Lola Zola and the Lemonade Crush"" and the second novel, with many of the same characters, is ""New Girl on Salt Flat Road."" Additionally, Marcy ran for Congress as a peace candidate, mobilizing a nationwide grassroots campaign to challenge the Iraq war and call for a Green New Deal to invest in alternative energy. Currently she works for the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she teaches English to special education students. Marcy lives in Santa Monica and is active in local politics. JACKIE HIRTZ Jackie Hirtz, MS Ed., worked in publicity and public relations for authors and tech clients. She also taught elementary school for seven years before working as a writer in Concepts and Communications at Disney Imagineering and as an assistant to a producer at the studio. In addition to writing educational material for teachers and students, she created interactive ""edutainment"" for themed entertainment companies. Jackie's credits include Disney, the Los Angeles Times, Canter & Associates, and the Brentwood Media Group. Together, she and Marcy wrote for children's television, including Nickelodeon's animated series ""Doug."" A writer and writing coach for students and seniors, Jackie says, ""Each student has a little spark somewhere, and it's my job to inspire their creativity. My best moments happen when I see that ""aha"" glimmer in my students' eyes - when they suddenly know what they want to say, pick up the pen and write.""
