Overview

The ovaries are female reproductive organs that produce ovum. They play a crucial role in women fertility and the menstrual cycle. The ovaries progress through different stages of development that start in the prenatal period all through menopause. Disorders of the ovaries can also be classified as endocrine or reproductive disorders. Small ovarian cysts are a common occurrence in women. This occurs when the egg does not release from the follicle in the ovary. When women have more follicles than usual, a condition called the polycystic ovary syndrome may develop that can cause cycle irregularities. Some ovarian disorders are ovarian neoplasms, ovaritis, ovarian cancer, germ cell tumor, teratoma, ovarian apoplexy, follicular cyst of ovary, etc. Ovarian research seeks to build an understanding of these conditions and the genetic processes that predispose individuals to these conditions. Such research allows the development of drugs that can prevent and treat these. The objective of this book is to give a general view of the different disorders of the ovary and their management strategies. It contains some path-breaking studies in ovarian research. Coherent flow of topics, student-friendly language and extensive use of examples make this book an invaluable source of knowledge.
