He has taught widely at universities in Australia, Asia and the US and visited major international research institutes and universities. He was Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, Melbourne University, and has published over 20 books and over 130 refereed articles in a number of journals. In recent years, he has also been a consultant to a number of organisations and authorities in Australia and various ministries in Thailand and Vietnam. - CHARLES HARVIE is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Wollongong, Australia. During 2003-05 he is on secondment at the Hunter Valley Research Foundation, Newcastle, Australia, where he is the Director of Research. Dr Harvie has published numerous journal articles and books on the economies of East Asia, and in particular that of China, Indonesia, Korea and Vietnam.
