OverviewThere were four major purposes of this study.The first was to evaluate a novel scale for the descriptive measure of everyday task performance in older adults [The strategy of difficulty continuum scale (SDCS)].The second and third were to explore the efficacy of resistance (RT), functional (FT) or resistance and functional (FRT) training for the improvement of neuromuscular function and everyday task ability in low functioning older adults, respectively.The final purpose was to evaluate attitudes of strength exercise in the community dwelling older adults. The results from this project provides useful information about a scale to measure functional performance, adaptability of the aging neuromuscular system, appropriate exercise training protocols for the pre-clinically disabled older adult and the current knowledge of beliefs of strength exercise in the community.
