Neuroinclusion: A Guide for Managers and Leaders

Overview

This book is a practical guide for anyone with managerial and leadership responsibilities. It walks you through what you need to know to develop neuroinclusive working cultures that enable, develop and get the best out of all team members. Up to 20% of the working population has a neurodivergent difference – such as dyslexia, autism or ADHD. The diversity of thought and skills that such people bring to the workplace has been shown to increase creativity, enhance profitability and improve team morale. Managers and leaders have a key role to play in harnessing these benefits: it is up to them to create a neuroinclusive culture by setting the tone and approach. Written by two experts in the field both with lived experience of neurodiversity, this book is a hands-on manual for adapting your organisation to better support neurodivergent talent and developing a more inclusive and strengths-based management style. The authors provide research evidence, reflective exercises and real-life case studies to deliver an irrefutable rationale for neuroinclusivity and the techniques needed to deliver it. Managers and leaders at all levels will develop their leadership and management capabilities; and organisations will find it easier to attract and retain talent, solve problems creatively and be more resilient – critical competences in the modern working world.

Reviews

""A ‘must have’ book for every manager or people leader. This book is a brilliant combination of high-quality information, practical advice and reflective activities to develop a neuroinclusive organisation. Whether you are at the beginning of the journey to becoming neuroinclusive or a mature organisation with a well-developed approach to inclusion, I guarantee there will be something valuable in this book for you."" Dr Louise Morpeth, CEO Brain in Hand ""As someone who built a neurodivergent team at EY, this book contains all the practical wisdom I wish I'd had from day one. A game-changer for leaders serious about neuroinclusion."" Tania Martin, Neurodiversity Consultant, PegSquared ""This book on neurodiversity is a practical and invaluable resource for individuals, families, colleagues and organisations seeking to understand and support neurodivergent individuals. This guide challenges readers to educate themselves, reflect critically and act intentionally. Its practical approach and actionable advice make it essential for raising awareness and creating enabling environments for neurodivergent individuals."" Caroline Bixby, Chief People Officer, Christie Group Plc ""Liv and Sam have written the book that would have allowed me to understand not only how to be a better recruiter, leader and coach but also myself, had it been written earlier. Incredibly thorough and well-researched, it is a state of the art walk-through of best practice for inclusive leadership and universal design. This book should be on the desks of everyone who engages with others in the workplace."" Penny Terndrup, Leadership Coach, Legal Neurodiversity Network ""This book is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to create a more equitable and productive work environment."" Professor Deborah Christie, Professor of Paediatric and Adolescent Psychology ""This brilliant book builds on fundamental management principles whilst integrating neurodiversity thinking to help managers work more effectively—and ultimately do less work. Sometimes we just need to have the right conversation, and this book equips you to do exactly that. We cannot overlook the impact leaders have on our workforce, and unless we equip them to support, manage and amplify the strengths of neurodivergent staff, we're missing our greatest opportunity."" Nathan Whitebread, Founder, The Neurodivergent Coach ""The book is packed full of illustrations and exercises that make it an engaging, and therefore increasing the chances of leading to real life and on the ground changes for a specific and historically marginalised group of employees."" Professor James Richards, University of Edinburgh Business School, Herriot-Watt, Professor of Employee Relations
