OverviewToday, advances in neuroscience offer us a privileged window to understand how human beings learn, feel and experience the world around them. For centuries, education has focused on developing students' cognitive abilities, leaving aside the impact that emotions have on the learning process. However, today we know that the emotional brain is not an accessory piece in teaching, but an essential component for the integral development of people. In this book, ""Educating with the brain and the heart"", I explore how we can transform the educational system by integrating what we know about the brain and emotions, in order to create more complete, effective and humane learning experiences. The rise of neuroeducation has revealed that our emotions directly influence our ability to learn. For example, when we feel motivated, secure and emotionally supported, the brain activates neural networks that favor information processing, content retention and problem solving. In contrast, chronic stress, fear and anxiety, so common in rigid or unempathetic educational environments, inhibit these capacities, creating barriers that are difficult for students to overcome. Education, therefore, can no longer be a space where emotions are relegated to the background; it must be a fertile ground where both intellect and emotional well-being are cultivated. This book is aimed at both educators and professionals in psychology and neuroscience, as well as those who are deeply committed to improving the educational system. The goal is clear: to integrate emotional neuroscience into the classroom, not as a fad or an abstract theory, but as a practical and applicable tool that enhances the learning experience of every student. Here I break down the neurobiological mechanisms behind emotions and their impact on learning, and offer concrete strategies for teachers to apply this knowledge in the classroom. Throughout my career as a researcher and educator, I have witnessed how teaching that considers emotions and the brain holistically can transform students' lives. I have seen children and youth flourish in environments where emotions are managed and understood, rather than ignored or repressed. And I have seen teachers regain their passion for their work when they discover that they have the power to positively influence the emotional and cognitive lives of their students. At a time when teacher burnout and emotional distress in students seem to be at alarming levels, this approach is needed more than ever. It's not just a matter of being more understanding or fostering emotional well-being out of a sense of humanity, although that's important too. Neuroscience tells us that an emotionally balanced and well-managed student is also a more receptive, creative and capable learner. In this sense, it is no exaggeration to say that we are facing an educational revolution: one that aspires not only to form brilliant minds, but also to nurture hearts that know how to deal with the challenges of today's world. The reader will find in this book a combination of scientific foundations, theoretical analysis and practical cases, all presented in an accessible manner. It is not necessary to be a neuroscientist to understand the concepts presented here; in fact, my intention is precisely to demystify neuroscience and make it accessible to all those who, from the educational trenches, seek to improve their practice. As educators, we have a responsibility to prepare our students to face an increasingly complex, competitive and, in many cases, emotionally demanding world . But we also have the power to give them the tools they need to manage their emotions, regulate their stress and develop resilience. These skills will not only help them to succeed academically, but also to build a full and satisfying life.
