Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care

Overview

The Oxford Handbook of Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care provides a comprehensive review of neurosurgical procedures and conditions commonly encountered by anaesthetists and intensivists. This practical guide offers early-career clinicians a safe and pragmatic approach to a wide range of scenarios while equipping experienced professionals with the latest advancements in practice. Specialist nurses, physiotherapists, and operating room staff involved in the care of neurosurgical patients will benefit from its clear useful advice. With dedicated sections on applied anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, as well as emergencies and a reference section on key drugs, this book is an invaluable revision tool for resident anaesthetists and an essential companion during rotations in neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care. Both elective and emergency neurosurgical presentations are systematically covered, drawing on the expertise of clinicians from leading national and international centres. The neuroanaesthetic section explores rapidly advancing fields such as interventional neuroradiology, functional neurosurgery, and procedures for chronic pain, with additional insights from interventionists, pain specialists, and neurosurgeons. A dedicated section provides a practical approach to dealing with anticoagulated patients and major haemorrhage. The neurocritical care section provides robust frameworks for managing complex patients with surgical and medical neurological conditions. Experts in the field discuss advancements in neuromonitoring and neuroimaging with a strong focus on clinical application. Additionally, leading authorities offer the latest guidance on the challenging process of diagnosing death in intensive care.
