Dr. Florin is a nationally recognized expert in the field of respiratory infectious diseases in the acute care setting. His work has been funded by grants from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the Gerber Foundation. He is currently leading multicenter research work within the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Collaborative Research Committee of the AAP, the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN), and the global Pediatric Emergency Research Networks (PERN). Dr. Florin is a past recipient of the numerous research awards, including the Academic Pediatric Association Young Investigator Award. He currently serves as Strategy and Operations Officer-Elect for the Society of Pediatric Research. Dr. Florin has had great success with early career grant mechanisms, including young investigator awards and NIH career development awards. He received a 'perfect' score on the first submission of his K23 award to NIAID. Since that time, he has received numerous grants from foundations, societies, and the NIH. He has mentored and advised dozens of young investigators on successful research projects and grants across the trainee spectrum, from medical student to resident to early career faculty. Finally, he has co-led a highly rated workshop at the Pediatric Academic Societies on grant writing for young investigators.
