OverviewShortly after living off in rooms to study in 1968, the author was confronted with serious psychological problems including an eating disorder. Treatments were unsuccessful and a recording in a therapeutic community had disastrous consequences. A major contributory cause of this was, in hindsight, her autism spectrum disorder which she was diagnosed of in 2002. One of the works describes her memories of this experience, of her overcoming her eating disorder after more than forty years of suffering from it. In addition, she discusses the possible links between autism, eating disorders, addiction, and others. Baukje van Kesteren (1950) is a psychologist and has an autism spectrum disorder. Her knowledge and experience in both areas greatly contribute to her works. In 2005, she published A Hole Where Your Heart Is, a work about autism and loneliness. Since then, she had given lectures and published articles, stories and poems including the NVA magazine article, Engagement with Autism. Her website (delachendepanda.nl) provides a wealth of information about autism and other topics related to her.
