OverviewThe art of needle tatting involves looping and knotting thread using a small, straight needle to produce designs that resemble lace. It's somewhat of like shuttle tatting, except you use a blunt-ended needle to make knots and make really fancy designs instead of a shuttle. To create decorative motifs, edgings, or even larger lace pieces, a sequence of double stitches, picots (loops), and rings are made and then linked together. Because technique can be used to create delicate and exquisite lacework and allows for the precise crafting of both basic and complicated designs, needle tatting is popular among crafters.
