Navigating PTSD: A Road to Recovery

Overview

Navigating PTSD: A Road to Recovery is an inspiring story based on true events. Jessie endures several PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)-causing experiences beginning from childhood through adulthood. Her father suffered from untreated PTSD (shell shock) and took the family on a rollercoaster ride of emotional abuse. As an adult, Jessie survived a terrible auto accident, was married twice to abusive partners, persevered through health issues, and many more life-altering situations. She never gave up. Her will to live, optimistic outlook, and support system kept her moving forward. Jessie's path from torture to recovery proves that mental health is attainable with courage, love, faith, understanding, and support.

Reviews

Navigating PTSD is an amazing account of how PTSD is not just a combat warrior's issue. It's everyone's. The author explains in detail what happened to her and her family because of PTSD. This book discusses the hardships endured by family members living in the home with a father that did not understand why he acted the way he did. He just did not recognize PTSD and the way it would affect his psychological well-being. Mostly he was reliving his trauma and reacting to his family like they were his soldiers. Jessie was married to a monster, and she loved him very much. She overlooked but did not forget how she was treated. Every time, Chad, her husband, got really upset over a simple question that deserved an answer. The only answer Jessie got was unbelievable and unwarranted rage. Chad had destroyed Jessie's favorite hobby, something that she needed to relieve her mounting stress. In the end, not only did Chad destroy Jessie's beautiful flowers, but he also made her feel like she was the one causing the problem. I really like how Jessie was able to overcome so many different PTSD events and come out stronger for it. What I was very upset about is the way Chad would punish Jessie by overpowering her just to teach her a lesson. This is a great book and is an extremely helpful, true story of Navigating PTSD. - Charles Keys III Navigating PTSD: A Road to Recovery is a riveting and emotional tale of a woman's life-long perseverance through unimaginable trauma and her will to heal. This is an inspirational story for anyone wanting to grow and not be defined by their PTSD. - Joyce M. Navigating PTSD: A Road to Recovery is an inspiration to everyone who has lived through trauma or has a loved one who has suffered trauma and developed PTSD. Jessie's Road to Recovery was a harrowing process that took personal courage, hope, faith and love. This story is based on true events, which makes it deeply personal, relevant, and uplifting. Readers can relate to the many trauma examples told in the different chapters. I highly recommend this book for everyone, since mental health should be a top priority. - Debbie G.
