Reviews

""Navigating Neurodiversity"" is an incredibly insightful and heartfelt exploration of what it means to be a twice-exceptional adult in a world that often struggles to embrace diversity. The book offers a unique perspective on navigating life with both strengths and challenges, and John's journey serves as a powerful testament to the importance of self-advocacy, resilience, and embracing one's whole identity. The narrative is rich with personal experiences, candidly shared, that resonate deeply with anyone who has ever felt ""different"" or misunderstood. John beautifully illustrates how embracing both your gifts and your challenges can lead to a fuller, more meaningful life. The author's vulnerability, combined with their practical insights, makes this book not only relatable but also empowering. I recommend ""Navigating Neurodiversity"" to anyone seeking to better understand diversity, neurodivergence, or the journey of being twice exceptional. It's an inspiring read for people from all walks of life, offering hope, understanding, and practical advice for navigating the complexities of being unique in a conventional world."" -- Debra Ruh, CEO of Ruh Global Impact and Founder of Billion Strong ""Navigating Neurodiversity: My Journey as a Twice-Exceptional Adult by John Truitt and Deborah Gennarelli, M.Ed., provides a personal look at the unique experiences of being late-diagnosed with level 1 autism spectrum disorder (formerly known as Asperger's), dyslexia, and giftedness. The book stands out for its relatable storytelling and its effort to connect with readers navigating unfamiliar terrain in their neurodivergent journeys. What I appreciated most is how the book acknowledges the uniqueness of every individual's path while offering reassurance that no one has to go it alone. Through accessible language and thoughtful insights, John Truitt shares his perspective in a supportive and encouraging way, especially for readers who may be new to understanding autism or twice-exceptionality. Deborah Gennarelli's contributions further enrich the narrative, highlighting the importance of community and collaboration. The book also provides practical strategies and tips that can be applied in everyday life, making it an approachable read for those seeking guidance and inspiration. From building connections to letting go of rigid timelines, there are plenty of takeaways for anyone navigating challenges or transitions. This book is a valuable addition to the conversation around neurodiversity, and its straightforward tone makes it an excellent resource for readers looking to learn more or feel seen. Thank you, John Truitt, for sharing your journey, and Deborah Gennarelli, for your continued commitment to the twice-exceptional community."" -- Theresa Haskins, Ed.D., Adj. Professor of Human Resource Management, University of Southern California, President, Theresa Haskins, LLC In ""Navigating Neurodiversity,"" Deborah and John have crafted a book that seamlessly blends memoir, self-help, and psychological science. They weave concrete data, achievable tasks, and personal reflection in a way that not only held my interest, but kept me engaged as I shifted between the types of information they shared. I found this point to be personal, practical, helpful, and most importantly, authentic. Anyone who is or loves a neurodivergent person should read this book! - Matthew Zakreski, Psy.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist ""Navigating Neurodiversity"" is a great resource for educators, twice-exceptional adults and parents of 2e students. The authors shed light on the benefits of diagnosis, innovative schools for 2e students, the value of disability accommodations in academic settings and helpful parenting strategies.
