Author Information

Jack Hopson, Jr. is a highly skilled Navy engineer with over 25 years of fire protection engineering experience. At sea, he has served on the USS Hue' City (CG 66), USS Rushmore (LSD 47), and six Mine Countermeasure (MCM) class ships. He trained the crews in fire safety, fire prevention, firefighting procedures, and gas-free engineering. On shore, he served as a firefighting instructor and Occupational Safety and Health Management subject matter expert, and the fire protection engineering (Damage Control) subject matter expert for all Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. He has trained over 90,000 personnel in the principles of fire dynamics, fire suppression, and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment. Hopson holds a Masters of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Bachelors of Science degree in Fire Service Management, Associates of Applied Science degrees in Marine Engineering and Vocational Technical Education; respectively. He is a certified Associate Safety and Health Manager. He is the U.S. Navy's recipient of the 2018 GEICO Military Service Award for fire safety and fire prevention.
