Author Information

John Ingamells is a Senior Research Fellow at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. He was Director of York City Art Gallery from 1968-77 and Director of the Wallace Collection from 1978-92. His published catalogues include The English Episcopal Portrait 1559-1835 (1981), Pictures in the Wallace Collection (4 volumes, 1985-92), National Portrait Gallery Mid-Georgian Portraits 1760-1790 (2004) and Dulwich Picture Gallery: British Pictures (2008).
