My Name is Saffron: Voices Silenced, Stifled, and Taken Away

Overview

""Prison became a chapter of my life."" A thriving entrepreneur in her 30's, managing medical clinics across three states and providing care for patients battling illnesses such as cancer and lymphedema, Saffron's world unraveled when she challenged a delinquent insurance company and prevailed; only to face retaliation with false accusations submitted to the FBI. Over the ensuing years, Saffron became the subject of relentless surveillance, intimidation, and harassment by federal agents. Pressured into signing a plea deal, she found herself navigating the harsh conditions of federal prison. Saffron's memoir chronicles her experiences within the California prison system and an Oregon halfway house. Emerging from incarceration, Saffron was driven to establish Marpé Haven, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women who have been voiceless, aiming to dismantle the oppressive structures of the U.S. justice system and foster opportunities for healing and growth. As Saffron put the finishing touches on her book, the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California, was permanently closed. Saffron's story serves as a timely, firsthand account of systemic abuse and a clarion call for reform in the treatment of women prisoners, both within and beyond the prison walls. Throughout the ordeal, Saffron fought to maintain her identity and voice, with a determination to help other women reclaim theirs through this compelling memoir highlighting the stark realities of social injustice within the women's federal prison system.

Reviews

""This book is life changing! A must read! Saffron overcame adversity, never allowing her circumstances in life change her identity or take away her voice. This book is about survival, our broken system; both inside and outside of prison, and the ability to stay positive and make a positive difference in the world. This will open your eyes and make you want to help in making a positive change for women in the U.S. justice system."" - Tatyana S. ""Honestly, I cried. I could feel Saffron's pain; I felt like I was walking in her footsteps as I read about her journey. I hate knowing that she went through so much destruction, hate, and judgement. However, Saffron looks at it with positivity and is continuing with grace and resiliency. She has great courage to make her voice heard and doing what she can to help women thrive while having their voice heard too. Knowing that Saffron has made it through hell and is able to come out on the other side gives me great happiness and peace. While I can never truly understand what she and the other women went through, I am thankful for her never-ending pursuit to do better, to be better, and to help anyone and everyone. You must read this inspirational book!"" - Robin P. ""Well that was a wild ride! This story is insane! Saffron's life story made me feel like I had been living with my eyes closed in ignorance. She opened my eyes to corruption, injustice, misunderstanding, and false assumptions about the justice system and those involved with and within it. She inspired me to live eyes wide open; to help and uplift everywhere and anywhere I can."" - Marie M. ""This book is so important. Everyone needs to read it to understand how our justice system really works because it's not what it seems. Saffron endured what most people could not imagine and came out determined to help people caught in the cycle of the system. She is truly incredible and sincerely wants to help. The U.S. justice system is so messed up and most people don't stand a chance once they enter the system. Thank you, Saffron, for shinning a bright light on the dark diabolical path of the U.S. justice system for women."" - Kate K. ""I laughed, I cried, I was terrified, and I was joyous. These are the emotions I experienced while reading 'My Name is Saffron'. I will forever be changed by Saffron's memoir, and it has inspired me to want to help in any way that I can. You will want to read this book!"" - Danielle R.
