Overview

This is the textbook for my lighting design course, it has been written for students of a Master's course in Interior Design. Objective of the book is to introduce the reader to the design of a lighting system in an interior by going through four major steps. The first step describes the fundamentals of lighting science and provides the basic concepts that will be used throughout the book. The second step applies the concepts of the first to the study of the different types of lamps used in interior lighting. The third step uses the knowledge from the first two in order to analyse the different types of luminaires available on the market and the tasks they can illuminate. The fourth step suggests a workflow that the designer can follow to design a lighting system.

Author Information

L. Simoni started working as an optics and reflector designer and lighting research and development consultant to luminaire manufacturers, with a background in engineering. He began holding refresher courses, usually for technical departments of manufacturers, and suddenly found himself teaching lighting design to interior designers. When the shock subsided, he was captivated by the challenge of teaching a technical course to students with a non-technical background. L. Simoni lives in Milan, Italy, in a house which, until recently, contained more computers than doors.
