Author Information

Muriel Jane Butler Sterling has owned and operated a successful family childcare service in Oakland, California for nearly half a century. While raising her two children, she served as president of the East Oakland Family Child Association. Additionally, Muriel was a regional representative for the Northern Family Childcare Association and, later, chairperson of the Berkeley/Albany Regional Family Childcare Network. She also served as vice president of the Berkeley/Albany Family Childcare Association. Muriel's passion for childcare was displayed at conferences in her specialized roles as conference coordinator and arts and crafts workshop leader. Her ascent to the pinnacle of childcare began when she completed courses at Merritt, Laney, Alameda, and Ohlone California Colleges. During this time, her model penmanship was put on display, honored, and placed in the Alameda College Library archives. Muriel has also written and directed several comedies for the Berkeley Reparatory Theatre in Berkeley, California and a fundraiser for the Dr. Herbert Guice Christian Academy, Oakland, CA.
