Overview"Oliver Harlan Cross was born in 1868 in Alabama, shortly after the first Ku Klux Klan was create. He became the criminal prosecuting attorney in Waco, Texas, when the town was known as ""Six Shooter Junction."" Later, in 1922, he became a spokesman or the Anti-Klan Legue in Waco, Texas. After that, Cross ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives at a time when only Whites could vote in the Democratic Primary (the only primary that mattered) an won. He served in Congress during the Great Depression of 1929, s transformative period in American politics.
