Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationMick Jett, author of the historical novel, Knowing Daniel, is a free-lance writer, historian and veteran journalist who worked for more than twenty years on the staff of The Miami Herald where he served as assistant news editor, feature writer and chief of the copydesk. During his years as a journalist, Mick was a sportswriter and columnist for The Montgomery (Alabama) Advertiser. He also was a sportswriter and page designer for the Tallahassee Democrat (FL), and an editor and reporter for The Tennessean in Nashville. As a freelancer, Mick wrote feature stories for scores of newspapers and various magazines throughout the country. His short story, Monster in the Neighborhood, was used as the model for a writing contest sponsored by Tropic Magazine. While in Miami, Mick contributed to the NY Times' Names in Bold column, and was responsible for the weekly compilation of Miami's best-seller list, also for the Times. He was a stringer for Reuters, the British news agency, and his stories were published globally. After early retirement from The Herald, Mick wrote gonzo-style short stories for The Tallahassean, a weekly newspaper in Florida's capital city, and his two-part series on the Irish dancer, Michael Flatley, was cover material for two issues of Irish Dancing Magazine, the UK-based publication devoted to Irish culture. He taught journalism at the University of Miami and served as a member of the board of directors at Ace Academy, a high school in Coral Gables, Florida. In his spare time, he coached youngsters for the Pop Warner Football League. Mick served four years in the Air Force and is a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. As a Red Cross volunteer, he served as a translator for Spanish-speaking victims of Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast area. He was born in Nashville, TN.
