My Father: Convicted Child Molester and Wife Beater

Overview

At the age of 37, she is diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer that she is determined to outsmart. She is a single mother to four beautiful children, and she knows that her late daughter, who is her guardian angel is watching over her. She is determined to reach out and guide people to find their inner strength to get through any adversity life throws at them. Mary is an accidental author. She wrote a book within 8 weeks while undergoing cancer treatment. She has been quiet for too long. In the face of her own mortality, she felt the urgent need to stand up and speak, loud and clearly. Upon waking up from a long, complicated surgery, only to learn that her cancer had spread, she started typing her book on her hospital bed. She didn’t realise that she had so much to say until she wrote page after page. Cancer is only one chapter of the book and without cancer, the other chapters could never have been written.

Reviews

With this second book, Mary Faltz takes us even deeper into the nightmare of her life, risking eliciting reactions of rejection or even disbelief in this disturbing reality. For me, the story Mary shares with us is on par with that of a family living under a dictatorship. Everything is mixed in physical and psychological violence, manipulation, disinformation, the invention of a family myth, brainwashing, and threats... As a result, everyone is a victim, forced to react or endure, and an avalanche of reactions risks causing even more misfortune. How can we help everyone to stop this cycle, calm their emotions, and live a more peaceful future?; I dare to hope that this book will be therapeutic for Mary. I invite the reader to show a lot of indulgence towards her outbursts, to understand her rage, and to share a part of her suffering. This book is a plea for the prosecution, and how could it be otherwise for a victim who continues to be attacked, who discovers the suffering of her mother, and who endures the reactions of her brothers and sisters, who themselves are caught up in a story that is beyond them. For people of goodwill, be they close to the victim, therapists, or decision-makers, it is a matter of reacting, of allowing people to evolve and change and of supporting those who engage in this path. Changing one's attitude is one of the most difficult human tasks to achieve. One of the most promising paths for this perilous adventure is prevention, working with our children. It is in this endeavour that Mary is now committed, and I admire her courage and enthusiasm in realising this project.; Dr Roland Seligmann; Leading Paediatrician / Founder and President of the Association Luxembourgeoise de Pédiatrie Sociale (ALUPSE) created in 1984, a crucial factor in preventing child abuse and the therapeutic care of children and young people in Luxembourg.
