OverviewA picture book for the whole family to share This book is essential reading for young children with a sibling with a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), and for parents wishing to understand how to support their needs and to sensitively encourage them to advocate for their sibling. This picture book is a wonderful way to start the conversation in supporting everyone's needs in the family. Having a sibling with DLD brings great joy. It also brings a range of emotions, challenges and questions. This book gives the sibling the words to explain what DLD is to friends, family members or teachers. It addresses how they might feel, and what they can do to look after themselves and it includes parent & carer tips. With examples of how they can help someone with DLD, and the amazing skills they are developing along the way, this book aims to celebrate and care for the wonderful siblings of children with DLD. About the author This book was written and illustrated by Loren Crisp, an Education Consultant and mother to 2 boys. One of her sons has a DLD diagnosis and one is an amazing older sibling who inspired this book. Thank you to the families who shared their experiences and to my other sibling consultant, Arizona, for her invaluable feedback! Reviews ""The second book from author Loren Crisp provides a wonderful insight into Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) from the sibling perspective. What I love most is how perfectly it's pitched for a young audience, helping children make sense of their own experiences. The book gently unpacks the big term ""Developmental Language Disorder,"" explaining what each word means in a clear, relatable way. It also thoughtfully explores what it's like to live with DLD. As a lifelong condition that affects communication every day, it can be exhausting, and the book acknowledges this with empathy and sensitivity. Sections of the book can also be personalised It's lovely that children can celebrate all the wonderful things that make their sibling unique, while recognising that DLD is just one small part of who they are. The book is packed with practical and easy-to-follow advice on supporting a sibling with DLD. From breaking information into smaller chunks to giving clues when words are hard to find. But the highlight for me is the inclusion of real-life sibling voices. Nine-year-old Arizona shares how her sibling's DLD has helped her notice when her classmates might need a bit of extra help too. ""My Brother Has DLD"" is informative whilst being easy to understand. A must-read for families navigating DLD together.""
