Overview
A Renaissance fair in rural Louisiana is not the kind of place you'd expect to encounter any real danger. All the dragons, jousting, sword fighting, and public executions are only make believe, right? Our favorite lettering artist, Mila Breaux, is not so sure about that. When she receives a mysterious note summoning her to hand letter the signage for the local Ren fair, some of the Dark Age performances seem to be way more realistic than she bargained for. Particularly when it comes to the trial and capital punishment of a young woman: the head artisan of the Ren fair's crafting guild. Joined by her trusty friend, Cherie Mamou, a Cajun girl who claims to talk to animals, Mila will need to get to the bottom of what is rotten in the kingdom. And she'll need to do it while steering clear of crooked royalty, fearsome knights, trained peregrine falcons, and a dime-store Shakespeare impersonator who may want to see the girls tarred and feathered! Together, Cherie and Mila seek the truth about the artisan's ""mock"" execution, and are met at every turn with fierce resistance. Can they figure out the mystery before it is too late, or will they fall victim to the brutality of Medieval times?

The story of how Lisa Pevey ended up in the swamps of Louisiana is a long one. Suffice it to say that she wasn't born on the bayou, but she got here as fast as she could! She is obsessed with cute animals, lettering, pens, and stationery. In fact, Lisa is the hand lettering artist behind NOLA Lettering! You can tag along for her cozy mystery series by following her on Amazon. She is married to mystery writer Seth Pevey. Mirai is a proud two-time Audie Award finalist. Her bright, youthful voice brings life to YA, chick lit, and book club fiction, especially those centering around female leads. From sweet to sarcastic, bubbly to dry, Mirai's comedic sensibility and zest for storytelling has been honed through her BFA in acting and over twenty years of experience as an actor on stage and screen, as well as behind the mic. Brought up in Japan and Singapore by Malaysian-Chinese and British parents (an author and editor!), her international background brings authenticity to global stories and accented characters. Mirai is a trained singer in Broadway styles, and can often be found acting in or directing a musical or play in the LA region. She has also worked at Universal Studios as a Studio Guide for over ten years, and is a Back to the Future expert. In her spare time, Mirai loves to knit while rewatching sitcoms and The Great British Bake Off, huddled in a cuddle with her dog and two cats.
