Overview

When a woman is killed after a party on Canada Day, a seasoned detective struggles to stay focused on the investigation. The body of a local shopkeeper is found dead on the beach. There is no question it is murder, but the obvious suspect has gone missing. Seconded from Vancouver Island and flown out to the east of the country to help set up a major crimes task force, Inspector William Gibson takes charge. A murder investigation is the last thing he needs. Estranged from his melancholic wife, there are other distractions too. Namely, an attractive and upbeat junior officer. Far from home, Gibson's loyalties become divided. The heady summer days bear down on him. The pressure builds to breaking point. Can he find the focus needed to solve a complex crime?
