Overview

"This second volume in the series of ""Multilingual Illustrated Guides"" follows a similar format to volume one (coldwater fish), and covers over 150 species. Essential information is presented, where possible, in tabular and diagramatic format, with descriptive text kept to a minimum. Each volume in the series is specifically designed to encapsulate a wealth of information in an easy-to-use format, and should be useful for all concerned with the international commercial fishing industries. A two-page spread is devoted to most species wherever appropriate. The left-hand page gives the species name, the scientific name and the family name at the top. Common names are then listed in 13 languages (German, Japanese, Spanish, French, English, American variations, Italian, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish and Turkish). Local names are given in the languages appropriate to each species. The average size (cm) and weight (kg) are also given. Full-colour illustrations are accompanied by brief descriptions of each species, and an overview of the development of its economic importance to the present day. Highlights of particular importance are cited below the illustrations. Full nutritional data per 100g edible weight is also provided. On the right-hand page, essential information is repeated in German, Italian, Spanish, French and Danish. Symbols are used to identify fishing methods and the most important fishing nations, major uses, processing and cooking methods. World maps are used to highlight the major fishing areas for each species. Brief paragraphs highlight eating qualities, history of the species, habitat and feeding characteristics."
