OverviewWe conducted a retrospective study that included all patients referred for initial staging or post-surgical follow-up of a cervical tumor. Our objective was to review the epidemiological profile of cervical cancer in Senegal, its MRI semiology, the degree of spread according to the FIGO-MRI classification, and to assess surveillance. The results are as follows: Cervical cancers accounted for 36.7% of all pelvic MRIs performed during this period. The average age of the patients was 45.7 years. The MRI was normal in two patients with subclinical cervical tumors classified as FIGO-MRI stage IA. All lesions appeared as T1 hyposignal, with diffusion restriction. Their T2 signal was variable, with contrast enhancement in 96% of cases. Stage IIB was the most common (56%), followed by stage IVA (28%). One in three patients referred for post-surgical follow-up had local recurrence. Cervical cancer is a real public health problem; MRI is an essential tool in the management of this disease.
