"Julius Robert Oppenheimer was a prominent American physicist who led the Manhattan Project, the secret laboratory that produced the first nuclear weapons during World War II. Oppenheimer led the development and testing of the atomic bombs that ended the war, subsequently dropping them on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. He was also a visionary and a humanist who explored the ethical and social implications of nuclear weapons and advocated for their international control and peaceful use.
