I am Mania Lichtenstein's oldest granddaughter. I was named after her two sisters, Rivka and Nechamka, who perished in the Holocaust. Because of my namesake and the stories that she has told me, I have always felt a very strong connection to both my grandmother and her family. Writing this book has allowed me to learn the details of her survival and look at her in a way she looked at her mother-as a hero.
