OverviewThe complete history of Mosport Park, Canada's premier road racing circuit and considered by some to be one of the most challenging race circuits in North America, it was first developed by the British Empire Motor Club in 1959 due to rising demand for a road course to replace to current airport circuits. From the first club races of 1961 to the internationally acclaimed grand opening Player's 200, Mosport stood out a world class race track. Drivers from Stirling Moss, who won the first event through others winners like Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Jackie Stewart and Canadian Legends Ludwig Heimrath, Peter Ryan, John Cannon, Scott Goodyear and Paul Tracy all contributed to Mosport's world class image. Other major events, The Canadian Grand Prix for Sports Cars, USAC and NASCAR Stockcars, Formula One, World Championship Motorcycle Races, the Can Am, Trans Am, IMSA and even go karts and snowmobiles combined to make Mosport an enthusiasts place to be.
