OverviewThis paper describes the socio-economic importance of goat breeding in the Sankuru province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, focusing on the Lodja territory. It highlights the need for morphometric studies to better understand the genetic diversity of local goats, which could facilitate genetic improvement and herd management. Goat farming is recognized for its crucial role in food security, household income and the maintenance of cultural traditions. Despite its advantages, goat breeding faces challenges, including low productivity and inefficient traditional management.
