Overview

Moroccan Sephardic Romancero is the most complete collection of traditional Judeo-Spanish ballads from Morocco. Following the romancero tradition from Spain, many of these songs have their roots in the pre-Expulsion Jewish heritage in Spain. Weich-Shahak is the foremost Israeli ethnomusicologist working on the Moroccan romancero tradition. She has collected 200 variations of 90 ballads from informants throughout the Jewish Moroccan Diaspora from Morocco to Israel, France, Canada and Argentina.
