Overview

"From its establishment in 1830 in New York State, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has grown to be a world religion with almost 15 million members in 150 countries. Mormons are so called on account of their belief in the Book of Mormon, which tells the story of the ancient people of America. 'The Mormons' is the only illustrated history of its kind, and traces the faith from its foundation by Joseph Smith and the early days of intense persecution to the building of Salt Lake City under the leadership of Brigham Young and the massive expansion of the Church in the second half of the twentieth century. The book offers perspectives on the Church's core values by those who practice the faith every day. Contributions from a range of Mormon experts consider a variety of topics – including the origins, beliefs and practices of the religion, its phenomenal success in recent decades as the Church has become increasingly international, its relationship to other churches, and the lifestyle of its members . AUTHOR: Roy A. Prete is an emeritus professor at the Royal Military College of Canada, Kingston, Ontario. He has taught modern history for some 35 years. His previous publications include ""Window of Faith: Latter-day Saint Perspectives on World History"". SELLING POINTS: . The only pictorial introduction of its kind on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . Insightful contributions by Mormon scholars on the origins of the Church, its core beliefs and the lifestyle of its members 270 colour illustrations"

Reviews

'This book is a gorgeously illustrated look at Mormonism from the inside out. It will help any reader better understand how Mormons see their faith.' - MATTHEW BOWMAN, AUTHOR OF THE MORMON PEOPLE: THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN FAITH 'This is more than a stunning see, more than an incredible read, it is also a deep heart-felt feel that will speak to not only you, but to all those who open its pages. Who is the book really for? The answers to this question are many. It IS for the coffee table in your living room - every LDS home should have a ready-to-share copy. This is a wonderful gift idea for Christmas, birthdays, baptisms, etc - With such truly amazing pictures and photographs, small charts and maps, this is also a great book for teaching IN the Church.' - ASSOCIATION OF MORMON LETTERS
