His areas of interest have changed over the years from dynamical systems with symmetry, through mathematical biology and on to mathematical data science and machine learning. He co-developed the Symmetric Projection Attractor Reconstruction (SPAR) method that converts an approximately periodic signal into a compact image and has many applications to the analysis of physiological signals such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmography (PPG) signals.
