OverviewNowadays, men begin to identify with an unrealistic body ideal from adolescence onwards. Dissatisfaction with one's own body can lead to the development of muscle dysmorphia. The associated psychological stress is managed through various emotion regulation strategies. In the following study, I investigated which emotion regulation strategies are used by people with a high tendency towards muscle dysmorphia, as opposed to those with a low tendency. The study assumes the use of dysfunctional strategies, similar to patients with the eating disorder anorexia nervosa, as the two conditions share many psychopathological similarities.
