Overview

Molluscan Shellfish Aquaculture: A Practical Guide is a readable, useable, and comprehensive source of information for all those interested in growing shellfish. The editor and chapter authors are among the most widely known and respected authorities working in the aquaculture industry and academia, and share decades of accumulated practical knowledge. Chapters covered include mussels, clams, oysters, scallops, abalone, pearl oysters and gastropods. Others focus on site selection, water quality management, hatchery construction and techniques, algal culture, biotechnical applications, disease, biofouling, best management practices, certification programs, marketing and business plans. Reference lists for further reading also are included. Molluscan Shellfish Aquaculture: A Practical Guide is a landmark resource for those working in the aquaculture industry, including hatchery and farm operatives and managers, inspectors, and consultants, and will serve the shellfish aquaculture industry for years to come. Personnel within companies supplying the shellfish industry with technical equipment and those working in the global seafood trade will find a wealth of useful information. Libraries in all universities and establishments involved in aquaculture teaching and research, marine and freshwater sciences, and invertebrate zoology should have copies of this comprehensive book on their shelves. Perhaps it will excite and engage new growers and consideration of new species to utilize shellfish to their fullest potential.
