Overview

Recognition of the importance of complex oligosaccharides in a variety of biological processes has stimulated a massive effort to synthesize them. This work presents a review of oligosaccharide synthesis leading from classical methods through to the state-of-the-art technology. The provision, wherever possible, of methods on synthesis and the 17,000 references allow the reader to implement the techniques described. Included are chapters describing the synthesis of the important glycosidic linkage analogs of natural sugars. While the chemical-synthetic methods constitute the main body of the book, completing the volume is a section on the rapidly expanding and important field of enzymatic synthesis.
