Reviews

Praise for the previous edition: [The] book explains the legal principles of admiralty law lucidly, putting them into their commercial perspective and suggesting how legal risks should be managed. Of particular merit is the emphasis on risk management, which, with a few exceptions, has not been widely studied and practised in the maritime world ... This is a comprehensive and thoroughly entertaining desk reference for those with an interest in things nautical.' - Maritime Journal 'One of the most comprehensive and concise books on the subject published in recent years ... The thoroughness and clarity of presentation is very much a tribute to the author ... Her training and experience in commercial and legal shipping practice, along with formidable academic knowledge, has resulted in this excellent book ... One is immediately struck by the comprehensiveness of the contents, followed by an extensive tables of cases, tables of statues and a most useful table to international legislation ... Students would be advised to read this before other parts of this publication. Shipping managers not directly involved in admiralty law would also do well to read this section of a book that is an essential addition to any library, and extremely useful to students and practitioners of admiralty law.' - Numast Telegraph '[The book] is very well-researched. It is comprehensively footnoted and references to case law as well as secondary sources are extensive.' - G. Gauchi, University of Wales, Swansea, UK 'This is not just another solid textbook - though it is that also - but a comprehensive up-to-date review of this rapidly changing area of the law as it affects owners, managers, charterers and brokers. Its special contribution is to cover risk management in the maritime context ... The book makes the case that risk management is essential to maritime commerce, not just an optional extra...' - News Focus
